About
Alba Urquia (Barcelona, 1997) graduated in MA Print from the Royal College of Art (London) in 2023 and received her bachelor's from the University of the Arts London in 2019, where she specialised in printmaking. She attended Tamarind's Summer Workshop in Albuquerque, New Mexico, US in 2025 to consolidate her expertise in stone lithography.
She has visited several printmaking workshops around Europe and was a keyholder member of Thames Side Print Studios during 2021, 2022 and 2023.
Urquia’s work explores matters related to existentialism and identity, the absurd, and the human condition. She investigates concepts such as the idea of self, consciousness and the utopian. Her predilection for analogue processes strongly informs her pieces which often undergo different mediums at different stages.
Philosophers such as Albert Camus, Sartre or Kierkegaard, and writers like Clarice Lispector or Ursula K Le Guin have influenced her work greatly. Urquia uses a strong drawing element and photographic (self)portraiture to articulate narratives that touch upon universal and ancestral matters.
