The Mirror is a Trap

(2024)

’The Mirror is a Trap' is the unsettling feeling experienced when staring at one's own reflection for too long.

The more time spent in front of the mirror, the more deformed the flesh looks. Self-recognition becomes abstract and blurry, and finally, unable to restore any link between the reflection and the persona, an emancipated and alienating sensation that absorbes completely the body and the mind arises.

In this body of work, inspired by Sartre’s ‘Nausea’, self-portraits go through many stages in order to recreate how vision becomes blurrier and blurrier the longer you stare. Each step transforms the portrait and takes it to a new level of disconnection from the original: a physical itinerary of this intimate yet humane process.
